JBT takes forklift automation forward with Crown and Hyster-Yale

JBT, a leading global solutions provider of technologically sophisticated systems and products, has solidified deals with Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc. and Crown Equipment, two of the world’s largest material handling companies, to help customers maximize the benefits of material handling automation.

JBT’s automation expertise and insight will be harnessed to deliver vehicles that can switch between manual and automated operation. By providing automation expertise, JBT will amplify and complement both companies’ ongoing research and development related to automation technologies.

The Crown DualMode T tow tractor, which offers manual and automated options, is an early result of the collaboration with Crown and is currently being piloted through Crown’s early adopter release initiative.

Meanwhile, the Hyster-Yale robotic reach truck, a pantograph truck capable of picking double-deep at heights up to 30’, has also been developed and installed at customer sites. The vehicle can also operate in manual and automated modes. 

Leveraging strengths
Laura McConney, Marketing Specialist at JBT’s Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) division, says the collaboration, which will see vehicles cobranded with the JBT and Crown/Hyster-Yale logos, will leverage the strengths of both companies. “JBT has been automating vehicles for over 30 years, while Crown and Hyster-Yale, which are among the globe’s largest forklift supply companies, produce well-designed, versatile vehicles,” she says. 

“We established relationships with Crown and Hyster-Yale because we were thinking about the way market trends are moving: forklift companies are collaborating, and we think that’s a good trend.”

Delivering vehicles that operate in both manual and automated settings, McConney continues, will help companies that are hesitant about abandoning manual operations by easing the transition between manual and automated operations.

O enorme potencial oferecido pelas soluções de preservação e esterilização da JBT para os setores de processamento de laticínios, tomates, verduras e frutas do Brasil (do aquecimento eficiente ao enchimento asséptico) será apresentado em um seminário de um dia, que ocorrerá no Centro de Pesquisa e Tecnologia da JBT, em Araraquara, no estado de São Paulo.

Esse evento exibirá a série de soluções Sterideal® da SF&DS para esterilização e pasteurização eficazes (que preserva, ao mesmo tempo, o sabor e a cor dos laticínios), mas também apresentará sistemas inovadores para o enchimento de sacos e latas e a esterilização eficiente de frutas, verduras e tomates processados.

A ser realizado em 16 de maio, o seminário “Tecnologias para Esterilização e Envase de Alimentos” detalhará as vantagens da utilização dos equipamentos de processamento dentro de recipientes da JBT, incluindo o Unifiller, Hydromatic® Hydrostatic Sterilizer, Batch Retort Sterilizers e Rotary Pressure Sterilizers.

De acordo com Januário Soligon, Diretor de Vendas e Serviços da América do Sul da JBT Liquid Foods, o seminário apresentará várias soluções (como o Hydromatic Hydrostatic Sterilizer para latas e sacos) que estão sendo lançadas no mercado brasileiro.

Esterilização eficaz
Em relação a laticínios, o evento apresentará soluções da SF&DS (antiga Stork Food & Dairy Systems), incluindo o Sterideal® HX Coil, cujo design exclusivo oferece a máxima transferência de calor e permite o aquecimento e resfriamento de produtos com extrema rapidez. O resultado, segundo Soligon, é uma esterilização eficaz combinada com uma excelente preservação do sabor e da cor.

Enquanto isso, o Sterideal HX SteriCompact UHT Sterilizer, que se baseia no sistema Sterideal HX UHT da JBT, um sucesso em todo o mundo, possui uma configuração helicoidal exclusiva de tubos concêntricos que asseguram um tratamento térmico eficaz combinado com uma recuperação de calor eficiente e um manuseio ideal dos produtos. O conceito do JBT UHT, prossegue Soligon, foi adotados por produtores de laticínios de todo o mundo devido à sua robustez, qualidade do produto final, facilidade de operação e Custo Total de Propriedade (Total Cost of Ownership – TCO) favorável.

O sistema “Fog-In-Place”

Tecnologias inovadoras
Incluindo uma apresentação do Diretor Administrativo para a América do Sul da JBT, Miguel Ruiz, sobre tendências dentro do setor de bebidas, o seminário também terá uma introdução ao Fog-in-Place®, um inovador sistema de esterilização da empresa parceira da JBT, a Aurratech, para tanques de armazenamento, equipamentos e salas de processamento. Esse sistema utiliza apenas uma fração da água e dos produtos químicos das técnicas tradicionais de esterilização. Além disso, o evento incluirá um tour na instalação de Araraquara e uma visão daquilo que a JBT está realizando em termos de pesquisa e desenvolvimento.

JBT to showcase solutions for Brazil’s dairy, tomato & fruit processors

The huge potential offered by JBT’s preservation and sterilization solutions for Brazil’s dairy, tomato, vegetable and fruit processing industries – from efficient heating to aseptic filling – will be highlighted at an upcoming one-day seminar at the JBT Research & Technology Center in Araraquara, São Paulo State. 

The event will showcase SF&DS’s Sterideal® range of solutions for effective sterilization and pasteurization while preserving the taste and color of dairy products, but will also highlight innovative systems for pouch and can filling, and the efficient sterilization of processed fruits, vegetables, and tomatoes. 

Taking place on May 16, the ‘Technologies for Sterilization and the Filling Food’ seminar, will detail the advantages of using JBT’s in-container processing equipment, including the Unifiller, the Hydromatic® Hydrostatic Sterilizer, Batch Retort Sterilizers, and Rotary Pressure Sterilizers.

According to Januário Soligon, Director of Sales & Service – South America for JBT Liquid Foods, the seminar will feature several solutions – such as the Hydromatic Hydrostatic Sterilizer for cans and pouches – which are new introductions to the Brazilian market.

Effective sterilization
On the dairy side, the event will feature solutions from SF&DS (formerly Stork Food & Dairy Systems), including the Sterideal HX Coil, whose unique design offers maximum heat transfer and allows heating up and cooling down of products extremely quickly. The result, says Soligon, is effective sterilization combined with excellent preservation of taste and color.

Meanwhile, the Sterideal HX SteriCompact UHT Sterilizer, which is based on JBT’s globally successful Sterideal HX UHT system, features a unique helical configuration of concentric tubes that ensure effective thermal treatment combined with efficient heat recovery and optimal product handling. The JBT UHT concept, adds Soligon, has been embraced by dairy producers worldwide for its robustness, end-product quality, ease of operation and favorable Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

Innovative technologies
Including a presentation from JBT South America Managing Director, Miguel Ruiz, on trends within the beverage industry, the seminar will also feature an introduction to Fog-in-Place®, an innovative sterilization system from JBT-allied company Aurratech for storage tanks, equipment, and process rooms that use a fraction of the water and chemicals of traditional sterilization techniques. Additionally, the event will include a tour of the Araraquara facility and a look at what JBT are doing in terms of research and development.

JBT alliance strategy delivers ‘win, win’ for customers and collaborators

Alliances have formed a key part of JBT’s expansion strategy over the past six years, helping bring major innovators such as Laser Food, Ice Gen and Aurratech to the JBT portfolio and providing these companies, in turn, with access to sales, service, manufacturing and sourcing operations that span 25 countries. 

Under the leadership of Carlos Fernandez, JBT Liquid Foods has pursued a strategy of expansion through acquisitions, but also – equally importantly – through strategic alliances with well placed, global innovators.

“We have had a clear growth strategy under Carlos as JBT Liquid Foods President, whether through new product development, acquisitions or by working with companies that either have solutions that complement our existing core technologies, can help us get into a new area, or explore the edges,” explains Sam Mudgal, JBT’s Alliance Coordinator for Liquid Foods.

The ‘Fog-In-Place’ system from JBT and Aurratech

Alliances, he says, provide JBT with a faster means of entering new markets than new product development. “We do both renovation of our existing product line and innovation, and that requires a significant investment of finances, resources and time,” continues Mudgal. “Alliances are a really quick way of bringing new technologies to our customers in a shorter space of time.”

Profitable relationships
Such arrangements, he says, have a clear strategic objective of supporting JBT’s aim of market expansion by providing valuable exposure to new markets and customers, while helping expose JBT customers to the latest market trends. Alliances, explains Mudgal, enable JBT to become a major distributor – generating potential financial rewards in the process – of a cutting-edge technology, and at the same time allowing the allied company to benefit from worldwide sales network, marketing potential and, when applicable, manufacturing capabilities.

“It’s a win, win, win,” says Mudgal. “A win for JBT, a win for participating companies and a win for our customers.” Of course, such arrangements are not purely altruistic, but rather have a very solid financial justification. According to JBT data, alliance-sourced commissions increased by 60% year-on-year in 2018, proving they are not just viable arrangements, but profitable ones too.

Mudgal says JBT alliances can take many different, multi-faceted forms, from co-manufacturing, joint product development to a joint sales strategy. “An alliance relationship can provide an easy, quick, less risky, and adaptable access to a technological solution or a product offering,” he adds.

HPP Europe Seminar to offer first-hand look at technology

How HPP works_Avure

The multiple benefits of High Pressure Processing (HPP) technology are well known, from doubling or tripling shelf life to improved preservation of healthy vitamins, but for smaller companies purchasing the equipment is often not an easy option. JBT Avure-approved tollers provide access to HPP technology with no capital investment required, and it just such an option that will be highlighted at an upcoming JBT Avure Seminar in the Netherlands.

Staged in conjunction with JBT Avure toller Pascal Processing, the HPP Seminar in the Netherlands will offer an opportunity to not just hear about the advantages of the system, but to see it working in action.

The event, which takes place on May 9 in Helmond close to the city of Eindhoven, will examine HPP technology, how it works and its uses, as well as growing market for HPP-treated products. Featuring a presentation from JBT Avure’s Dr Errol Raghubeer on new and emerging HPP applications, the seminar will include a tour of Pascal Processing’s nearby facility, including a look at juice extraction and an HPP juice test.

“The event will offer a chance to visit a contracted HPP provider – or toller – which provides the service for companies that are not yet sure about making an investment in the technology,” says Lisa Wessels, Marketing Director-HPP for Avure Technologies. “It’s a chance to see the machines running and see what Pascal does.”
